unicode: misc symbols (useful dingbats)

List some personal favourites.  Not particularly well-thought out, but
a good start.

unicode: symbols for key commands

Logically outlined keyboard representations, for those without the shift+alt
feature of rxvt-unicode, or wanting a good overview.  Follows Unicode
specifications and personal preferences, even matching most symbols on
international Apple keyboards.

Also attempting an overview of (music) playback interface symbols, using
premature proposals from Unicode document n3607.

style: reuse key command styles for continents

Merge the (more saturated) keyboard colours with continent classes for more
consistent palette usage and less maintenance (for example allowing circus
styling for free).

Save less saturated versions (derived from old continent classes) of light
and dark as lite and darklite.

revert html5 elements usage

Breaks styling in MSIE upto version 8 (hurray).  Not worth it (yet) as
classes are nearly as descriptive.

Prefer standard HTML feature to Javascript onclick.

Link tags including (outside) the entire list items would allow further

incorrectly in at least Opera 9.25, Safari 4.0.4, and MSIE 7.0.

robots: disallow crawlers to sources of perl modules

As far as they support * in Disallow.
Advantage of indexing all related modules is limited: source is (better)
available at official repository site.

Gracefully fall back to no markup if Text::VimColor cannot be used.

Assume users can figure out capitals for themselves.  More useful is
mentioning something with a macron, which fits very well (similar to å:
usually a long aa).

In `require Some::Module` the module name includes leading space (unlike

These characters have really stupid digraphs.  Propose more memorable
aliases.

Probably the most useful keys of all, as they are not explained on the
normal mutt help screen.

Some miscalculations leading to cells having too much width allocated.
Also define all columns so the number is explicit (making the table
validate(able)).

define charset first, before title

Name the used encoding as soon as possible.  This may actually be
mandatory in HTML5, but makes more sense in any case (except in
practise, where browsers use either the HTTP header or support meta
tags at any time).

Fix some invalid meta values (missing mime type).

declare type in HTML style tags

Though all browsers default to css, it's not strictly valid.

escape special html characters in key descriptions

Descriptions are raw HTML, so add some forgotten entities to keep
everything valid.

apache config to compress html output if possible

Enable mod-deflate to bring down all pages to under 30kB for clients
accepting gzip compression (which should be most nowadays).  Do not
bother with crappy browsers maladvertising their abilities, since we're
mostly only supporting (modern) standards-compliant behaviour.

Savings in bandwidth and load time are very significant:
digraphs 159522 -> 27734 (17%) - saves nearly 20s on 56k!
vim      107160 -> 13800 (13%)
unicode   64588 ->  8418 (13%)
charset   58682 ->  8269 (14%)
nethack   13428 ->  3396 (25%)
index      1486 ->   828 (56%)

Not compressing stylesheets, because even for base.css this would only
save 8322 bytes, at the risk of browsers being unkind.  Maybe later.
